“He who sings, prays twice”

“In praise, there is the speaking forth of one confessing; in singing, the affection of one loving."
St. Augustine, Commentary on Psalm 73, 1

Over the centuries, Augustine’s insightful comment has been abridged to,
“He who sings, prays twice.”

An amazing thing can happen when the Spirit infuses the arts and uses them to lead us beyond our selves, beyond our burdens, beyond reason, and into the mystery of the moment when we realize that the veil between us and our Creator has been made, somehow, thinner.  An amazing thing can happen when, as one body, we slip into the same groove, affirm the same truth, express the same love, gasp for breath at the same time, as we lift our hearts, spirits, and voices in songs of worship together.

We aspire to make music that reflects the wonder of God’s beauty and communicates the startling power of his truth.  We sing great hymns of the faith that have been sung by believers for generations.  We sing fresh new expressions of faith that are being sung by new generations of lovers of Christ.  We “pray twice” in every way we can imagine and pray that God will ever continue to expand our imaginations.
