Following God's Lead

Following God’s Lead

We are indeed in the midst of summer.  Camps, retreats, ball games, days at the park, mission trips; summer picks up speed for some families.

As I write this, many of the Jr. Highers are getting snuggled up in their beds under the muggy, humid Iowa sky.  They planned to go to Juarez to help at an orphanage, but it didn’t work out due to a drug war going on in that city.  So they decided to go to where people needed immediate help, Cedar Rapids.

Taking a step of faith, the group signed up to do whatever needed to be done.  We are excited to hear what God will do during this amazing ministry opportunity, and pray for His blessings on this group as they minister in Iowa.

Meanwhile, many in the Sr. High are preparing to head down to New Orleans on the Melt Tour.  It’s called the Melt Tour because it gives God an opportunity to melt our hearts and bring us closer to him.

Since we normally go somewhere incredibly hot, it also gives the soles of our shoes the opportunity to melt to the pavement.  There is still a lot of work to be done years after Hurricane Katrina, and part of the group will be involved with demolition, yard clean up, and painting.

The other part of the group is ministering to local children by taking part in a dance camp.  The children who attend have nothing, and show up hungry every morning.  Our youth will befriend these children, learn dance moves with them, and take part in a dance showcase Friday night.

Why would we go all the way to New Orleans to take part in a dance camp?  Because we hope to minister by bringing some normality to these kids.  Some can’t remember much before the hurricane.  They need Jesus to show up and dance with them awhile.  We want to enter into that.  We expect that God will show up in amazing ways during the week in New Orleans.  We also expect to fry our eggs on the sidewalk.

So please keep praying for both groups.  Pray for patience, grace during the heat; for safety; for inspiration.  Pray that all the people in both groups can look through Jesus’ eyes, and love with His heart.  We hope to give you great updates on our return.
