I Want to Make a Difference!

Last weekend I was in the Dominican Republic visiting with Gregg and Mercy Tucker and connecting with Lookout's partnership there. On Saturday morning Mercy and I drove out to the "campo" outside La Victoria to deliver mattresses purchased with donations from the community at Lookout. 

As we walked from one corregated shack to another I kept mumbling to myself, "I want to make a difference, I want to make a difference!"

I realized how small and inadequate I felt in the midst of massive poverty. How could some mattresses make any difference in a sea of need?

Then I got thinking that maybe our "gift" was just being present with people, in Jesus' name. Perhaps the best we can give is for people to see Jesus in us and for us to be fully present in people's lives.

Quite a humbling thought.
